Credibility in absolute power?
Is Malaysia going down to the dogs? do we have to rely on corruption charges to bring down an opponent? As for sodomy charges, don't they have anymore novelty to charge against their political arch-foe now that they are playing it twice? What are they coming out next against Anwar Ibrahim? Bigotry? Racial card? Cessation from Malaysia? Treason? Murder? If that is the case, then we will have no use for politicians who abuses their authority.
Many questions remains unanswered. But knowing how subjugated the courts are now to the government, it may very well played in the favor of the perpetrator. It is in the whispers now that because of the heat facing the Altantuya Shaariibu murder case and possibly losing the premiership, Najib Razak is under pressure to act. But react he did. Not only did he not answer the charges by Anwar how he could deny not knowing Altantuya when there are photo evidences, but now with the latest allegation stating the even even his wife Rosmah Mansor was at the scene of the crime. That his associate, Abdul Razak Baginda was charged with the murder of the Mongolian beauty show deadly plotting, manouvering, execution and more suggestively, a trail leading back to Najib. Surely a researcher in a government think-tank doesn't earn that kind of money which Altantuya demanded. Surely he does not have enough clout to deal matters pertaining to the police, special branch bodyguards and the office of the Defence ministry. The rakyat is still wants to know how Abdul Razak's bodyguards laid hands on explosives and grenades that belongs to the army. Abdul Razak was later acquitted. Putting two and two together, it is almost certain that a powerful invisible figure is behind the scene dictating terms. Coincidently, Najib is the current deputy prime minister and heads the Defence portfolio in the Cabinet. Now we have death threats surfacing against Anwar. Whilst this writer doesn't claim to have respect for Anwar, but threaten to take a man down for searching answers and accountability has shown sinisterness of a man destined to be Prime Minister the day Pak Lah calls it a day.
Now that Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has shown through photo evidences that the sodomy victim has indeed government links, what do the accuser has to say? Yes, no doubt that Anwar's seeking of refuge in the Turkish embassy may warrant unwanted publicity from the international arena, but the way this is played out may leave Malaysians no choice but to seek such interference if violence ever explodes. Internal affairs non-interference demands by our Foreign ministry do not count if the nation is in shambles as far as our citizen is concerned. Not only did my suggestion in the previous post that we had liars manning key government positions, we now see corruption, mismanagement and total abuse of the power given to these politicians.
As we should not be haughty to prejudged as the case is still being tried, suffice to say that the rakyat already knows the verdict. One sure verdict is that absolute power corrupt absolutely with most of our top politicians. We still have a long way to go with credibility when absolute power is at stake!

Has the police lost it?
It is appalling to read in today's Star article that a cop had forced fellatio and has raped a girl in a police station. How could this happen is the question that firstly comes to mind. Aren't there proper procedures to follow in the first place? Shouldn't a policewoman be the one handling the weaker sex? The article even had it as if the police station is bereft of other personnel except the perpetrator and the victim. Where is the commanding officer in charge of the police station when this incident happened?
I guess it is true that inside a police station, anything can happen. God help those who are brought back to the police station and the so-called high-and-mighty police could really have their way with the intended victims. This writer recalled an incident in Johor where a mechanic was beaten to death. Apparently, the family claimed that the victim was kicked in the groin and died as a result of trauma. News on the grapevine has it that his injury involves bursting the scrotal sac. They dragged the culprit to court, and no justice came of it.
That the article said they had "strong case" and not coming out declaring it outright only serves to undermined whatever respect the rakyat has left of the Royal Police force. Deal with it immediately if the evidence is already a "strong case" as claimed. This sort of incident must be stopped completely. Extortions, bribery (as in the case with Lingam's secretary), ragging, brutality (ask our former deputy prime minister), rape and even killing nowadays committed by the very force sworn to uphold the law. Seriously, what is wrong with the police ever since they got their way in term of monetary increment in their salaries? They have gotten even lax, if the article is of any indication. The frightening aspect is that we are not talking about thugs or gangsters but our very own policemen. It is an absolute outrage that the people in authority has been abusing the very people they are suppose to protect. The lines are indeed blurred now between police and the very ones they put behind bars. It might as well be Malaysia's version of Jekyll and Hyde.

‘Strong case’ against officer over alleged rape
PETALING JAYA: Police have a “strong case” against a cop who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in a police station in Subang Jaya on June 18.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the investigation report had been sent to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and Bukit Aman for further action.
“Based on our investigations, we have a strong case to charge the officer. He has been suspended since the date of arrest and would also be facing disciplinary action soon,” he said.
Khalid added that police were waiting for the victim's medical report from the hospital .
On June 18, the girl was with her boyfriend when the policeman stopped their motorcycle at 5am.
After finding that the boyfriend did not have a licence, the policeman instructed them to go to the station where they were questioned separately.
The girl from Shah Alam was allegedly forced to undress and was threatened by the policeman that if she did not comply with his demands, he would send her boyfriend to jail.
She claimed she was forced to perform oral sex on the policeman before she was raped in the station.
After 30 minutes, the couple was released but she did not reveal the incident to her boyfriend or family members until several days later.

Frozen pro business?
This writer is disheartened when reading yesterdays New Straits Times that the local authorities contemplates to freeze all new cybercafes permits to operate in one of the state. The reason cited is that they operators are not adhering to the stipulated rulings like closing on time or that most of the cybercafes are fronts for gaming vices. But the question remains, are all operators doing this?
Not long ago, a stupid government authority had constructors applying for class A, B and so forth licenses, before they could even tender for certain projects. When they found this was abused, it was disbanded and no longer made applicable. Those who paid hundreds of thousands were left in a lurch in just a stroke of a pen signed no doubt by the then daft minister of finance.
Another example. The Tourism ministry has barred travel agency licenses from being issued now in KL. They would issue permits to other states if its outside of the capital and centre of business. The reason? Too many travel agencies permit given and that the travel agents are not "performing" by their standards. It suggests that the travel agents wanted to somehow fail in their endeavours. So somehow, in their warped minds, the Tourism ministry effectively said all future applicants are deemed to be failures also. Maybe they do not realise that touts and other under-the-table operations, more so with foreign applicants, are flourishing due to their stupidity. This is likewise the same with many other government ministries. Little wonder why the rakyat wanted change in the parliament.
Not too long ago, new massage parlours' licenses to operate are also denied by DBKL citing again most operators are doing vice businesses allowing or hiring foreigners to ply the flesh trade. Whilst it is without a doubt that there are operators flouting the laws, the question must be asked that is everyone guilty as charged? what about those who are operating in a clean environment and those law abiding ones? This writer can easily identify ten good operators if the local authorities need references. Effectively, the local authorities in one sweep of their action, classifies everyone as guilty.
One must wonder why is everyone who has the credibility, financial means and the creativity to start any businesses be barred from doing so, just because of a few bad sheep? it must also be questioned the enforcement's lack of ability and yet many potential businesses are to suffer the consequences of their inept capability? It also smacks on how the authorities planned and stipulates the rules. If there are guilty ones, charged them! Thats what courts are there for in the first place. The local authorities have brazenly acted like judge, jury and executioners. Do not let others who have done no wrong be punished. This is all the more when the government declares that it is pro-business. With the opening to many government staff for part-time business to supplement their incomes during these hard times, isn't it baffling that local authorities are the very same group that hinders businesses from flourishing?
The writer believes if every permit is to be frozen, then we might as well be a socialist country. Maybe its time to change weak rules and also to improve enforcement, not stifle businesses. If things cannot improve on the court side, just admit it and do something drastic about it like amending laws that has many grey areas. Replace redundant local heads and inept judges whilst at it. Think again! With this parochial mindset, Malaysia will soon be left behind in world trade and economy. Pro-business? Not by a mile to the rakyat!

Chedet.com's comment of Hindraf
Watching how things progress, if chedet.com is ever written by Mahathir Mohammed (Shahrir Abu Samad thinks some mischevious bloggers are behind the writings) then it has started making some serious and damning allegations.
How serious is the allegations now? Well, racial overtones are coming out in print and this should be stopped immediately. The fabric of our society has held up previously because of racial and religious tolerance. This reckless man is now throwing caution to the wind to get his way. His partisan stance is a gambit to have ketuanan melayu back again as overlord even if it causes bloodshed. Then control could be wrested through sheer and possible militant-like takeover.
Secondly, he is tearing apart the credibilities of good leaders. Again, this is an irresponsible act coming from an ex-premier who did not keep his words on non-interference. He should check himself in the mirror first before questioning both past and present leaders. Yes, this writer agrees that no one is perfect, but he never gave the current administration a chance to govern in the first place, did he? He still wants to be the puppeteer and sulk when he did not get his way.
This writer has warned if the government does not stop it, how sure could it avoid another racial riot like in 1969? Please don't have the non-bumiputeras migrating in fear. Dont even let this beautiful country fall in the hands of a sulking despot. Something needs to be done and it needs to be done urgently. I like Mahathir, but I am not letting blind respect getting ahead of me anytime soon.
Yong Teck Lee: the Mad Hatter
Yong Teck Lee as admitted that he has met up with the opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and now demanding a big return for SAPP at this opportune time is really regrettable. As what would the opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim dangled in front of him, it has now gone in his head that he is in the position to demand. Sadly, this is a man once chief minister of Sabah and made such political novice move. Also this is a party that has only delivered 2 MPs. Underlining the fact, is just basically, a failed politician's personal greed using the current Sabah issues as a guise. Basically what he did is unforgivable. Barisan Nasional should move swiftly and eject SAPP from the coalition. Surely, without the the coalition, SAPP will be irrelevant and will eventually face oblivion.
Yong Teck Lee obviously didnt think of his SAPP's survival when he went for broke. And it is shameful also to attack Pak Lah, thinking the PM is at his weakest. He is indeed a leopard which cannot change its spots. He wanted to make a comeback in a big way since his court conviction, and if that is not enough, he demanded seats from other Barisan partners in Sabah. Pairin Kitingan, his former political boss in PBS even said PBS is in better position now since this traitor's defection from the party. In Pak Lah's own admission, even when he is in Sabah to meet up Yong, he is nowhere to be found. A coward indeed!
If Yong thinks Anwar's carrot is better, or the grass is greener on the other pasture, the brave thing it would do is to declare its stance. But then again, its shameful because not even his vice-president has been informed. One wonders why would he believe Anwar? Anwar will not stop at anything to get his hands on the premiership. Anwar portrayed as though he could change the price of fuel. This is such a blatant lie. When the rest of the world is languishing at the hike, could really a daft bloke like Anwar do anything about it? If he could, this writer is of the opinion he would certainly be a top consultant to, say, the airlines companies for example. They are also struggling to contain the fuel hike. From 18th June, the Star newspaper recorded Southwest Airlines, the biggest budget carrier in the world, and SIA just announced raising their price due to price of oil currently. Anwar should start offering his solutions there before we even trust him with the governing of Malaysia. Yes, the rakyat is suffering, but Anwar is just an opportunist to take advantage of the rakyat's anger. Yong will do well to join Anwar. Afterall, birds of the same feather should flock together.
As a pepatah Melayu has it: Air tenang jangan disangka tiada buaya. Many Barisan component leaders have already voiced out displeasure with SAPP. The components parties can never hold PM at ransom at any time, more so when they had won the seats in the Barisan ticket. The buaya should now bite back and show some taring. Pak Lah should move to have SAPP out!

Sympathetic?
The few recent drive by the Royal Police of Malaysia to take discount for summonses for traffic offences in recent time really is commendable. The Selangor Police deserved to be name for their effort in Ulu Langat last month I believe.
In light of Pak Lah's mention that the government is sympathetic towards the hardship that the rakyat faces in light of the hiked fuel price, maybe the federal government could consider again a drive to clean up summonses by giving discounts before even thinking of rebates back to motorists. We can observe the queue to pay up previously, generally showing that many law-abiding Malaysians are conscious about keeping a clean slate. This would really help as it won't come as a potential impromptu hardship should the police announces a crackdown later.
This writer is in no way condoning traffic offences, but do extend the sympathy also to the burden of the rakyat in this case. Just a optimistic suggestion!

Lying or Inept Politicians?
The petrol price hike is confirmed by midnight tomorrow. from the existing RM1.92, it will now be RM2.70 come 5th June, 2008. This translates to almost a 40% hike, among the highest hike anywhere in the region. As much as we can see the overburdening effect of the ever rising price of fuel, it is just a question of time, no doubt, that the government will raise price.
But what irks this writer is are there no decency in announcing the matter with maturity and level-headedness? It seems that even the Cabinet ministers themselves cannot agree to a fixed time. Sharir Abdul Samad mentioned August as the timeline to look into increment of the price. Najib Razak before that made it clear that there will be no price hike before September. And today, we have Pak Lah himself announcing it, very much like his game when announcing the parliamentary dissolving and election date. All these meander triggers a strong sense of betrayal right now that the announcement has been made. Are they inept in the first place?
The rakyat are no fools. We can see for ourselves the upward trend of the oil prices and accept reality as it is. But deal with it with maturity. Don't treat Malaysians like fools by toying with the dates when so much is promised, before and after the General Election. During Mahathir Mohamed's time, at least there were ample warning in the offing and increment in bearable levels over projected timetable. On another note, this writer thinks it would be very interesting how Mahathir would work out this problem. These barrage or announcements and now swift implementation has all the earmarks of patronizing Malaysians after what is announced to the press before. It only serves to show that the present government is dotted with liars, if perceptions may rear its head. Little wonder then the distrust with the Barisan Nasional and Federal leaders are still evident. The leaders have only themselves to blame should complaints, resentments and general protest whiplashes comes now against them. It won't even be surprising that the Opposition may gain entry into Putrajaya way before the next election in the light of things in East Malaysia.
It is wise not to be seen as inept or liars now especially when the coalition is at its weakest. Distrust will only lead to a chaotic and unstable government. A repeat of the ugly protest in Indonesia recently is not needed here!
